Breast Cancer Statistics

According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Afortunadamente, gracias a una mayor conciencia y a nuevas pruebas y tratamientos prometedores, las tasas de supervivencia van en aumento. Breast cancer often has no symptoms, so regular breast health checkups are important.

According to the American Cancer Society:

  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States, except for skin cancers.
  • Breast cancer accounts for about 30% (or 1 in 3) of all new female cancers each year.
  • The median age at the time of breast cancer diagnosis is 62. This means half of the women who developed breast cancer are age 62 or younger when they are diagnosed.

In 2023:

  • About 297,790 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women.
  • About 55,720 new cases of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) will be diagnosed.
  • About 43,700 women will die from breast cancer.

Prevention and detection of breast cancer are key to better health outcomes.

Nuestros especialistas en cáncer de mama son líderes certificados en su campo. Están a la vanguardia del desarrollo de abordajes innovadores para que las pacientes vuelvan a vivir sus vidas.

Our physicians and staff will create a tailored treatment plan just for you, which will include careful consideration of your needs. We will be with you from an abnormal mammogram, through diagnosis and treatment, into survivorship.

Integrated Treatment Plan

Your Breast Health Program care team may include oncology-certified nurses, a social worker, physical therapists, a nutrition counselor, a genetic counselor, a psychologist, a lymphedema specialist and a tobacco cessation counselor — whatever your situation needs.

Norton Cancer Institute patients who receive a breast cancer diagnosis have the option to be seen by multiple specialists the same day through a multidisciplinary Breast Clinic. You will have fewer appointments and can get started as soon as possible on the next steps for your care.

Your case is shown to a diverse group of providers, and treatment plans are discussed in by a breast tumor board. This allows your treating provider to ensure all options are considered prior to the course of treatment.

At Norton Specialty Pharmacy, you’ll receive regular consultations on your medications and treatment plan, making sure you get prescriptions quickly and accurately. Our specialty pharmacists collaborate closely with your oncology team.

We also offer a full range of treatments and techniques, including surgery, radiation and hormonal therapies.
