For most, the flu is a mild illness and doesn’t require medical care — stay home for at least 24 hours after any fever breaks and avoid contact with others except to get medical care or other necessities.
Antiviral drugs may be a flu treatment option, especially if you are at high risk of serious complications. When taken promptly, antiviral drugs can ease the flu’s worst symptoms and can shorten the time you feel sick by an average of one day.
Los antibióticos se usan para tratar infecciones bacterianas y no son efectivos contra infecciones virales como la gripe. Algunas personas pueden desarrollar una infección bacteriana como resultado de la gripe. Current antiviral drugs can treat cases of both influenza A and B. They have their biggest effect when taken within 48 hours of symptoms first appearing, making rapid diagnosis important.
If you are experiencing symptoms of flu or COVID-19 requiring an evaluation, care is available with a provider visit through Norton Community Medical Associates primary care locations, Norton Children’s Medical Group pediatrician locations, Norton Prompt Care at Walgreens clinics and through Norton eCare, a virtual urgent care option. Norton eCare is available 24/7 and provides virtual consultation with a provider with referral to Norton Healthcare Express Services drive-thru testing if needed.
If you have no symptoms but need to test yourself for COVID-19, a visit with a health care provider is not required. In those instances, Norton Healthcare administers COVID-19 antigen tests to patients with no symptoms at Norton Healthcare Express Services, by appointment only. Appointments are available for all ages and can be scheduled online at NortonHealthcare.com/COVID-19. Please review your insurance for any recent changes in coverage for COVID-19 testing.
